What a provider looks at

Your provider considers your weight history and BMI, weight-related conditions such as high blood pressure, prediabetes, or sleep apnea, your current medications, and your personal and family medical history. Medication is one part of care that also includes nutrition and activity. Your provider may ask for recent lab work or vital signs, adjust or stop treatment over time, or recommend in-person care instead.

Online treatment may not be right for you if:

  • You or a family member have had medullary thyroid carcinoma, or you have MEN 2
  • You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding
  • You have a history of pancreatitis or severe stomach or bowel disease, such as gastroparesis
  • You have type 1 diabetes
  • You are under 18

This list is not complete. Your provider makes the final determination.

Important Safety Information

Compounded semaglutide & tirzepatide

Compounded medication. Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are prepared by a licensed pharmacy for an individual patient based on a prescription. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, which means the FDA has not reviewed them for safety, effectiveness, or quality.

Possible thyroid tumors, including cancer. In studies in rodents, semaglutide and tirzepatide caused thyroid C-cell tumors; it is not known whether they cause these tumors in people. Do not use if you or a family member have ever had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Tell your provider right away about a lump or swelling in the neck, trouble swallowing, hoarseness, or shortness of breath.

Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredient, are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Stop and seek medical help right away for signs of a serious allergic reaction.

Serious side effects may include inflammation of the pancreas (severe stomach pain that may spread to the back, with or without vomiting); gallbladder problems; low blood sugar, especially with insulin or a sulfonylurea; kidney problems caused by dehydration from vomiting or diarrhea; severe stomach and intestinal problems; changes in vision in people with type 2 diabetes; and depression or thoughts of suicide. Tell your provider before any surgery or procedure that uses anesthesia or deep sedation, because these medicines slow stomach emptying.

Tirzepatide may make birth-control pills less effective; your provider may recommend a non-oral or backup method after starting treatment and after each dose increase.

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, indigestion, and decreased appetite. Tell your provider about all medicines you take and any history of pancreatitis, gallbladder, kidney, or stomach problems, or diabetic eye disease. Report side effects to the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 or fda.gov/medwatch.
