Safety information

Important safety information about using prescription and compounded therapies responsibly.

Last updated: July 2026

General safety

Use all medications only as directed by your licensed provider. Do not exceed your prescribed dose, do not use your medication for any purpose other than what it was prescribed for, and never share your medication with another person. Keep all medications out of the reach of children and pets.

Before you start

Provide complete and accurate information during your intake, including all prescription and over-the-counter medications, supplements, allergies, and medical conditions. This information is essential for your provider to determine whether a therapy is safe and appropriate for you. Tell your provider if you have a history of thyroid cancer, pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney disease, or any serious medical condition.

Possible side effects of GLP-1 therapies

GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide and tirzepatide may cause side effects. Common side effects can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal discomfort, and reduced appetite, which often lessen over time. Serious but less common risks may include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, kidney issues from dehydration, and allergic reactions. Discuss the full risk profile with your provider before starting.

Peptide and other therapies

Peptide and other compounded therapies may carry their own risks, including injection-site reactions, allergic responses, and effects that vary by individual. Because these are compounded and not FDA-approved, the safety and effectiveness profiles are based on available clinical literature and your provider’s judgment. Ask your provider any questions before beginning.

Who should not use these therapies

Certain therapies are not appropriate for everyone. Your provider will screen for contraindications. Do not use these therapies if your provider advises against them based on your history. Never obtain or use prescription therapies without provider oversight.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Many of these therapies are not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, tell your provider. Do not begin or continue therapy without your provider’s guidance.

Storage and handling

Store your medication exactly as instructed, which may include refrigeration. Do not use medication that has been frozen, left at improper temperatures, is discolored, or is past its expiration date. Follow the provided instructions for safe injection and sharps disposal, and dispose of unused medication responsibly.

Reporting adverse events

If you experience side effects, notify your provider promptly. You may also report adverse events to the FDA through the MedWatch program at www.fda.gov/medwatch or 1-800-FDA-1088.

Emergencies

If you experience signs of a serious reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, severe abdominal pain, chest pain, or a severe allergic reaction, call 911 or seek emergency care immediately.
